Welcome to the Perception Portal Website

This website has been designed as a place to start for those struggling with the kind of problems that can arise for any of us from time to time. There’s a wealth of useful information available from many sources to help in dealing with all kinds of difficult situations.  However, when we are in distress, it can be hard to think clearly about where to go and what to do to get the help that’s needed. This website aims to provide some basic information about a range of challenging situations (Topics) and some pointers as to what can be helpful in dealing with them (How Can I Help Myself?; How Can I Help Someone Else?).

If you need more information the site can also be used as a gateway to access websites that may provide more detailed help with your particular situation.  Where possible, and subject to availability, the links are to statutory, charity or not-for-profit websites.  However these organisations may still charge for access to some parts of their websites.  Please note that helplines, including those offered by government departments and charities, may not always be free to call even from a landline.

The website has been compiled by Susan Bradley, Practice Counsellor at Dunelm Medical Practice, Durham. It is specifically designed for use by any adult patient (aged 18 or over) at the practice and is not restricted to practice counselling service clients. Detailed information for children and young people is NOT provided. However links to some organisations offering help and support to children and young people are available. If you are not a patient of Dunelm Medical Practice, Durham some of the information may not apply to you.  The site is free to use and is provided on an “information only” basis.  It does not under any circumstances offer any form of individual help or support. The Site is independent of the Practice. Please do not contact the Practice regarding this website. Please see the Terms & Conditions for more details.

If you are already receiving any kind of help for any condition, difficulty or problem, it is advisable not to vary that help in any way without first discussing any changes with whoever is providing the help as to do so could be harmful.  To make an appointment with one of the doctors or other practitioners please contact your branch surgery during opening hours.  If you need urgent help or support, please see the "Sources of Immediate Help" box below this paragraph or "I need urgent help".
